I consider myself a Christian Atheist. I'm not sure I believe in God, the resurrection of Jesus and many tenets of the Christian faith. I don't believe in heaven or hell and I don't believe in the devil. I am searching for the roots of my progressive ideals.

My grandfather was a socialist, pacifist and Pentecostal Christian. When the "Holy Spirit" spoke to him it spoke of the oppressed people in the world he lived.

You will find a lot of company here.

Hi jsawyer, welcome to the board.

I can't say I believe in any of those things you mention, either. Well, I "believe" some of them, but not literally.

I look forward to your participation.

Peace,

Mike

jsawyer, I can consider myself a Christian Atheist too. I think it is enlightening to experience the tension between the Christian experience and the Atheist experience. The difference seems to be on the surface when I compare them, but when I dive into the science of energy forms, I see that energy can't be created or destroyed according to the Law Conservation. That seems to make it infinite with no limit. I see matter as energy so that makes energy a kind of creator because matter is created with energy. If I go into atheist mind set, I see this as different, but then if I go back to the Christian side in the Christ mind set I no longer seek to subordinate one to the other. I begin to see one as being fulfilled by the other; energy creating matter as a form of the Divine, everywhere and in everything. It seems in duality I can have two experiences of the Absolute in tension and at peace, or in harmony at the same time in unity.

I see, hear, taste, smell and feel gross energy, but at the same time I can experience subtle energy. There is a limit to my senses and this boundary marks the experience of gross life because the subtle energy fields are out of our ordinary range of experience. Technology has shown me that there are subtle levels in our world, which I am not aware of with my senses because my senses are limited to the gross strata only. In order to experience the finer energies of life it seems necessary for me to improve my sense of being by aligning with the soul.

The air is loaded with energy from lightening to the Aurora Borealis, and water is charged with electrical, chemical and mechanical energy. The energy in water as ice has the force to break granite into pebbles. Atoms also have energy and we are a combination of atoms, energy and life. A combination of millions of energies separated and disconnected until I unite them in my life. Acting in harmony it seems I can educate, train and marshal my forces into a purpose and stop the meandering nature. This empowerment seems to be the aligning of my mind with the energy of the soul giving direction to a rudderless ship at the mercy of the sea. No longer drifting aimlessly with the wind, I can cultivate my energy to its highest degree of application to improve the faculty of my experience. I feel Christ is a symbolic teacher that didn't walk on the physical water, but transcended gross creation, not floating on a tide of circumstances. In my mind He experienced the highest, most vibrant stratum of energy sitting in the seat of the soul where energy is united in a pure Being, the Supreme Energy.
