erin Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 I'm moving to Orlando and a week and ready to church hunt! i'm hoping to find a church that at least SORT OF agrees with the 8 points or has a statement of faith that will be a bit similar. Any suggestions? I'm hoping to avoid having to settle for a congretation that is dogmatic and closeminded.

Good luck!
Kay Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 You would probably have luck with the PCUSA, the UCC, the Episcopal Church, or the United Methodists.
bodyofgod2 Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 Pershing Ave. Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The pastor is Rev. Lindy Wood, a classmate of mine from Divinity School and a generally progressive person. Don't know about the church as a whole but its fairly progressive - at least the pastor is. Tell her I recommended her church. - Brent

Read their 'Top 10 Reasons for becoming UCC' on the home page of their website http://www.fccwp.org. Based on that, it seems like a very progressive church. Orlando University Congregational UCC seems to have a very diverse congregation. It is a small church which has been there for a long time but has remained small. Hope Unites is a MCC/UCC church downtown that says it is a progressive church on its website http://www.hopeunites.org. Joy MCC is an inclusive church (shouldn't all churches be?) that is open to all, http://www.joymcc.com Someone suggested Methodist churches, but I do know that most of the Methodist churches are not very progressive. At least the ones here in Florida. Seems like most of them would fit into the conservative, evangelical camp. If you do check out these churches, please do post your thoughts on them. It would be very beneficial and enlightening for other progressive Christians seeking a home church in the Orlando area. Good luck!!
kool_bean Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 GOOD, GOOD NEWS!!! There is a truly, progressive church in the Orlando area. It is Christ Community Church on Apopka-Vineland Road and their web site is http://www.orlandoccc.org. They are doing the "Living The Questions" DVD study so that must say something about them. Do check them out if you get the chance.
