  1. After reading this book I had the feeling that Bishop Spong was proposing a new orthodoxy. My feeling on this is that what we need is a "heterodoxy". There are many paths to communion with God and we need to honour and respect all of them. If we get bogged down in dogma, we risk missing the call of the Spirit. My personal view is that when we seek the divine, we find that aspect of God that we need. This will, of course, be different for each of us.
  2. This has been said before, but I believe it bears repeating. Why is this the issue that we take the literal interpretation on, and yet not all the other restrictions in Leviticus? I truly believe that our approach this issue is an indication of how open we are to the Spirit. I don't think we have to all agree on the issue, but we need to approach it with a willingness to look inside ourselves and honestly look at why we feel the way we do. Jesus taught me to embrace diversity, not to fear those who are different from me.
