Urgent, time-sensitive memo:

More than 23,000 faithful citizens signed the petition and nearly 2,000 people donated to support the "God is Not a Republican...or a Democrat" advertising campaign. Thanks to an unprecedented response, we have already raised more than 75% of our fundraising goal!

Now we have an exciting opportunity. If we raise the remaining $15,000 in the next two days, we can run the ad in The New York Times during the Republican convention! With the media, politicians, and our entire nation focused on the convention, just imagine the impact that your voice will have during this moment in time.

>>Hurry - please consider a gift of $10, $25, $50, $100, or more.

We also received an incredible response from our loyal readers to place ads in local newspapers across America - several readers even offered to raise the money themselves!

This is a tremendous grassroots opportunity. Sojourners will contribute every dollar we raise above and beyond our initial goal toward placing full-page ads in local newspapers such as:

The News & Advance (Lynchburg, VA - Jerry Falwell's hometown)

The Virginian-Pilot (Virginia Beach, VA - Pat Robertson's hometown)

The Gazette (Colorado Springs, CO - James Dobson's hometown)

And perhaps even your local newspaper

Together, let's remind America that Jesus taught us to be peacemakers, advocates for the poor, defenders of justice, and stewards of the environment. Let's tell the Religious Right they do not speak for us.

>>Donate today and make your voice heard during the Republican convention! ( weblink )

Blessings,

Jim Wallis

Well, in some ways there are such groups. E.g. The Interfaith Alliance and The Clergy Network. Also check out Call to Renwal Go to www.google.com and visit their websites.

There is a thread on the Interfaith Alliance on this bulletin board.

Rev. Jim Wallis and Rev. Jerry Falwell will appear "live" tonight (Sept. 1. 2004) on CNN's popular television program "Anderson Cooper 360." The hour-long program airs at 7 p.m. EST, and the Wallis-Falwell segment is scheduled to run closer to 7:30 p.m. Please check your local listings for more information.

Our "God is Not a Republican...or a Democrat" petition (www.takebackourfaith.org) is being well-received by the media. Look for another overview of Sojourners' press coverage in Friday's SojoMail, including commentary by Jim Wallis on President Bush's convention speech.
