JosephM Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Welcome Angelo, Was raised a Catholic also as most were from the North East part of the country. Perhaps when i was a child, it did something for me but now i look back on it only as a stepping stone to something more. Hoping you continue to find this forum refreshing and contributory to growth on your path. . Love in Christ, Joseph Quote
SteveS55 Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Hi Angelo, I'm a cradle Catholic myself, who was subject to the normal indoctrination. Years later I discovered contemplative Catholicism, thanks mainly to Thomas Merton. It was more practice oriented than doctrine, and ultimately led me to the study and practice of some of the Eastern traditions. Over the years it has all become oddly familiar, yet insufficient. The only thing certain is uncertainty, and what is not known. Peace. Steve Quote
angel Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 Thanks, Joseph. I think that conceiving something, for example Catholicism, as a stepping stone to something more, does not imply a depreciation of it; surely many catholics would think so, but, on the contrary, it could be actually the best way for defending its value. PC also can surely be seen as a stepping stone for something else.SteveS55, I agree with the idea that "the only thing certain is uncertainty"; I think that uncertainty is not necessarily an enemy to fight; rather, it is surely an infinite source of horizons widening and richness of life. romansh Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 I am an ex-catholic priest, no longer priest, nor catholic. Welcome Angelo I am trying to think of something that I was always ... I'm coming to the conclusion whatever it was it is bigger than me. When I look deep inside myself, I see the universe quietly staring back at me. Quote
soma Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Angel Welcome I am a Catholic and it gave me a step in the rear end when I got kicked out of Catholic school. I eat at the God buffet like the Christian Mysticism martini because it incorporates everthing into a delight. Quote
