New Here, Away From Church For Almost 18 Years

Hello everyone,

I have been disconnected from a church environment for 18 years. While the church I was part of was re-inventing itself, departing from an Old Testament frame of mind to a "new testament" way of thinking, I soon became discouraged as it seemed that we were still bound by too much "religion". So I left the church that I was part of for almost 20 years. It was a very difficult decision to leave, since I was caught up in a fundamentalist organization which had many rules and regulations. Leaving was both scary and liberating at the same time. I happened to come across one of John Shelby Spong's books, "Why Christianity Must Change or Die", and his writings were devastating for me. The Bible would never be the same for me again. I continue to seek truth, and I believe that I am on the right path to freedom.
