PaulS Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Having read Bart Erhman's 'Lost Christianities' and wishing to learn more about the earliest Christians (and diverse range thereof), I was wondering if anybody could recommend any particularly useful resources, particularly online ones (but not restricted to). Cheers Paul
GeorgeW Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Paul, A book about early Christianity that is very good is The Rise of Christianity by Rodney Stark. It is more historical than theological or biblical. Stark is a sociologist who specializes in religion. He explores early Christianity from a sociological point of view. Several years ago, I gave a copy to my pastor (PCUSA) and he said it was the best book he ever read about early Christianity (mine as well, but he had read much more than me). George
Neon Genesis Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I recommend the books The Gnostic Gospels and Beyond Belief: The Secret Gospel of Thomas by Elaine Pagels.
rivanna Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 I'd suggest this resource http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/ I've been reading a book by John Chryssavgis on the desert fathers and mothers...a saying that sticks in my mind, "Lord, we entreat you, make us truly alive." --Sarapion of Thmuis
