Gospel Of Barnabas?

Recommended Posts

A freight train can run over you whether or not you know where it started. After 2100 years Christianity will be little affected by such a claim. There are enough sources of doubt now to encourage anyone who wants to doubt.

Turkish authorities seized the text in 2000 in a crackdown on a gang who were charged with smuggling antiquities, illegal excavations and the possession of explosives.

Provenance will be tricky but maybe Dan Brown could use it for another best seller.

Iran is claiming that a 1500 year old text written by an individual who lived 2000 years ago will bring down Christianity. The last Gospel of Barnabas that appeared was written in 16th century. Its true I read it on the internet.

It would be interesting to see what it says, but Christianity is evolving with the times, maybe we can learn something? The knowledge gained from the book can enhance my spiritual experience, but I don't think it will change the silence and peace I feel. The blocks to the ultimate Christian experience are within me not some book.

My ex, a Muslim, told me Muslims have long claimed that Jesus was not crucified. Someone that God made look like Jesus was crucified. Jesus never died, but was taken to heaven alive. He was a prophet, and yes, prophesied Mohammed. Mohammed was the last prophet.

The ironic thing, to me, at least, is that Mohammed himself told his followers to respect Jew and Christians as "people of the Book". Just an aside.

Weren't the Gnostics the ones who started that whole thing about how Jesus didn't really die on the cross?

It has been argued that Islam was influenced by Christianity in the Arabian Peninsula which included Gnostics who were run out of Egypt by orthodox (small O) Christians.
