PaulS Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I was just wondering what people thought about mediums and 'communicating' with those who have 'passed over'. Do you think it is possible, have you done so, if it can happen is it relevant, etc? I'm not really interested in debating it, just asking for people's opinions/views. I do recall something in the OT instructing people to not get involved with mediums - has that influenced your thinking about such? Cheers Paul
Inthedark Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 My experience of them is through people I know who go and see them on occasion (all have been female for some reason?) with varying results according to those people. Personally I think mediums are the ultimate "people readers" and tell them what they want to hear - in other words I think they are fraudulant. I am cynical by nature though and each to their own I say.
NORM Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I don't believe in spirits or mediums. I dated a woman who's mother was a medium. It was all fake. I was hired to help set up the "props." Hint: they use lots of mirrors, creative lighting and employ the art of misdirection. It's a "legitimate" (not illegal) business that preys on gullible people. You will notice in any legitimate, established Fortune Telling enterprise, that somewhere "in a conspicuous location" is a disclaimer: For Entertainment. I think the dead stay dead. NORM
JenellYB Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I'd say I think those that offer such "services" or whatever you would call it are, as noted, "people readers"...there is also skill and training involved in the "successful" ones...such as here in the US, it is still a common trade among Romanies, Gypsys. Years ago, I worked next door to a small group of Gypsys, a number of families living in a small travel trailer park...got to know several of the women, if you could ever say any outside could ever be allowed to know them...they actually showed me a few things, explained a few things, in how they did their 'fortune telling', but none of it was really amazing or anything, just as said, good people reading skills, observing people's every little reaction, asking leading questions, that sort of thing. As to where any "communication" with the dead is or isn't possible, on some occasion, I don't think I'd say. But I don't think those that put themselves out for an income, or otherwise claiming to be able to do so at will, are actually doing it. Jenell
glintofpewter Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Talking to the dead can be a healthy way to sort things out. But the dead are dead. Dutch
JosephM Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Well Paul, since you ask.... The dead for me, have only appeared in what one would call my dreams and they do appear to talk while there. Sometimes there is even information exchanged that may be of use. In the state that one would call awake, i have received very relevant information but where it is really from, and who or what was the source, who can say that another may know? Joseph
JenellYB Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I can relate to Joseph's observations here. I have experienced both things mentioned. And, with some pretty amazing synchronicities surrounding them, that really made me feel one passed on HAD been involved in communicating something to me. I have also done as Dutch mentions, talked "to" a passed lived one, in sorting things out, or sometime, just sharing an experience I thought they would have liked. And, had some sense of 'communion' and peace after doing so. One example...shortly after my mother passed, I was sitting on my porch trying to decide what to do about two different family members claiming my mother had promised a certain personal possession she'd had. I didn't get along particularly well with either of them, in fact both of them had been very hateful and nasty toward me in some of the matters of taking care of mother, and in her final arrangments. But what I really wanted to try to do what Mother would have wanted. I saw the mail carrier run, went out to get mail, and among it found a card and note from one of those people, apologizing for her narty behavior toward me. Just as I was sitting there on the porch reading that note, a yellow canary, of all things, landed on a low branch not 6ft from me and began to sing. Mother had a special feeling toward canaries, and had one for 17 yrs when I was growing up. I took it as her having just told me which person to give the item to. Jenell

I do recall something in the OT instructing people to not get involved with mediums - has that influenced your thinking about such? Cheers Paul Paul, I am from Malaysia. In my country, the Chinese especially, has practice of communicating with the spirits. They would allow their body to be possess by the spirit, sometimes, even their voice changes, and they could even speak languages that they do not know. They not only communicates with them, but the mediums will use the spirits for healings, rituals such as slicing their tongue.. etc
Yvonne Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 I believe that when one dies, he/she returns to the Source - that spirit or whatever that connects us with the One returns to it. Therefore, I don't believe we can communicate with the dead. I do, however, believe that we are, through the One with whom we are intimately connected, connects us to our beloved dead. I also think that our love can unite us in such a way that we can "sense" our loved ones among us. For years after my father died, my mother and I both "saw" and "heard" him in our home where he died. How is this possible? I have no idea. Maybe we just loved and missed him so much that our love and imaginations supplied us with that which we longed to have.

I think that would best describe how I feel it to be. That the "essence" of who we are merges back into the source, the One, and in any of our own connectedness to the source, the One, does our own essence, reaching out, find some connection to that of others we've loved. But then, we do that among the living as well, at least so it seems to me, when I find myself and other close loved ones so often thinking of one another, even doing the same things, at the ame time, though far apart in distance, and having not spoken. soma Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Some like and need a translator for the other side. I feel we just need to get to the unity Jenell expressed so well.
