Vridar Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Good Morning, Signing on Bishop Spong's newsletter message board last night brought me to this forum. Thinking I typed incorrectly I tried again. Again to be brought here. I guess we are now posters on "TCPC." Each of us will have to go through the pecking order game one more time. I am from northwestern Missouri and have participated in the Bishop Spong message board for over 7 years. The posters there have helped me transform from a radical to a more moderate sojourner. I will lurk for a while to see the directions this board takes. I promise never to troll or flame. It seems the administration here is a little more "hands-on" than on the Spong board. Respectfully, Ron (Vridar is the protagonist of Vardis Fisher's epic, The Orphans of Gethsemane, in case any one cares ;>) )
soma Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Vridar, welcome and as far as I am concerned there is no pecking order. We are just exploring and approaching the ultimate truth of life from many directions so no one is ahead or behind as we grow in our understanding about life. I look forward to your post and I am sure I will benefit from your light as I grow in understanding about life.

I look forward to your post and I am sure I will benefit from your light as I grow in understanding about life. Soma, I probably used an incorrect metaphor. Which is an example of what I write. After some 4000 posts on the Spong message board, the locals were used to my over and understatements. Until each poster gets to know the other posters, in this case me, the posts have to be read literally. What I probably should have said is that each of us will have to get to know each other. I will try to be a little more specific. From experience, which I have little on forums other than Spong's, I found there are paths each of us follow, support, defend, question, etc. It is fun discovering these paths and those who follow each. Again, I will try to get the feel before posting much. Thanks for the welcome. Respectfully, Ron
GeorgeW Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Ron, I will monitor this forum as I have time and participate about matters of interest. I abandoned the old Spong forum as it became so limited in number of participants and topics addressed. I am not interested in endless discussion of the latest conspiracy theory. I am hopeful that this forum will focus on religious and moral issues and will offer informed and interesting insights. Others: I have known Ron for a number of years from the Spong forum and know him to be very knowledgeable, well read, and reasonable in his views. George
JosephM Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Hi George, Welcome. I hope this forum meets your hopes. I believe you will find it free of conspiracy theories and more to your liking. Looking forward to your participation along with Ron in those areas that interest you. Joseph

I was able to sign on the "old" message board this morning and found the usual. Also, found that only a "privileged 1% of forum posters" were informed of the change to this forum. Some posters even question why a seeker such as myself would be interested in discussing Christianity, let alone progressive Christianity. Others: I mentioned having help with my moderation from radical. GeorgeW was instrumental along with many other moderate Spong posters. I think I can speak for both of us - we enjoy religious, biblical, faith, etc. discussion. George is a go-to guy in many areas, especially, sociology. (Blush for us, George ;>) .) Ron

Ron A seeker, IMO, is one seeking knowledge and understanding, not necessarily a personal belief system. This could entail tolerance of theistic beliefs without embracing them. George
