  1. Okay. One way to end a discussion is to not participate. So, farewell tariki.
  2. By the Spirit I mean the Holy Spirit, which Jesus promised us would be our guide. "But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. For he will not speak on his own authority, but will speak whatever he hears, and will tell you what is to come." John 16:13 So, tariki, if you have no interest in the Holy Spirit, then you are denying what Christ has promised to Christians. Without the Holy Spirit you are denying Christ.
  3. By the Spirit I mean the Holy Spirit, which Jesus promised us would be our guide. "But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. For he will not speak on his own authority, but will speak whatever he hears, and will tell you what is to come." John 16:13
  4. It is important to understand that are we not only historically removed from the last "books" of the Bible, but that we are also removed from the culture that the people lived in when the "books" were written. Personally, I don't bother with the historical aspect of Christianity but make an effort to understand what the Spirit is trying to show me about living a life worthy of Christ, even if I am thousands of years removed. As is clear from Paul's epistles, there were problems with what doctrines the early Christinas believed, and we are very far removed from them culturally and linguistically. So we must rely on the Holy Spirit to be our guide. As we should.
  5. It must be nice living in an enlightened country! We in the US are going through a serious crisis. There is a tremendous break down in Christian values, even by some claiming to be Christians. Loving your neighbor has morphed into "who is my neighbor", in other words, serious, hateful discrimination because of the inability to love our neighbors as ourselves.
  6. I don't see anything gruesome about John 3:16. It says that He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world should be saved through him. There is nothing gruesome about having eternal life and not perishing. It is glorious! God wants the entire world to be saved by Jesus' sacrifice for their sins.
  7. I am a member of Christian Forums -- and have received several warnings from them (although I've never been kicked out). There are some real "fruitcakes" on that site but I participate to pass the time during the COVID-19 pandemic. I have more problems with christianforums.net than christianforums.com, primarily because they are right-wing politically.
  8. Christianity is not a static situation, a set of rules governing behavior. That is the Old Covenant. Jesus said that He would send us the Holy Spirit who would guide us into all truth. There is no time limit on this. We are living in times and situations that would have been unimaginable thousands of years ago. Christianity (which is timeless) must progress as time passes, so that the Holy Spirit will continue to teach us how to live according to God's will.
