  1. I have a tremendous love for the Unitarian Universalist Church. But I go to the United Methodist Church still, because while I certainly believe in religious pluralism, my own particular religious experience is very Christian specific. My worship has to speak "Christianese," as Marcus Borg likes to call it. The UU church does not offer that to my liking as much as I personally need. The theology at UU church is great. It is the style and foundation of worship that don't work for my personal needs.
  2. Well personally, I am going to say that I think it is a tragedy. It is a tragedy because the real message of Christ is just as relevant today as ever, if not more so. If churches like the Anglican church wither and die away, I think it is sad because I think the real reason will because a lot of people simply have not opened their minds to a new understanding of what Christianity can be. If Christianity has to go, it will go. But I'd like to see it go after it gets a fair shake. Currently, it is not getting a fair shake. Fundamentalism and theistic ways of interpreting Christianity are not the only way of viewing and experiencing Christianity. For most people, I don't think they have ever known this. Christianity dying away without people having the opportunity to experience a new, vibrant way of living into it, is quite a tragedy. This is all my opinion of course.
  3. Accepting would be a good word for me.
  4. I have not read through the entire thread, but I will state what I know and what I believe. The first thing is that I do know that there are in fact self identified Christian atheists. Dr. Robert M. Price from the Jesus Seminar is a member of the Episcopal Church is one who self describes as such a Christian atheist. The next thing is that I believe that yes, a person can be an atheist and Christian at the same time. We do know that there existed Christian deists. Founding Father Thomas Jefferson was one of them. While deism is not atheism, it is very similar in many regards.
  5. Hello everyone, I would like to introduce myself. I am Jeffry and I live in Houston, Texas. I am very interested in this community and of being among like minded individuals who are wanting more of a glimpse of the mystery of the divine in the articulation of Christianity, but have found the traditional ways of understanding our religion to be bankrupt. I hope to make many friends. Jeffry
