Hi everyone.

I was born Catholic, and attended church most Sundays until I turned 18 and started university. That was more than 30 years ago, and in that time, I have not been anywhere near a church, or any other place of religious worship, save for the odd wedding, and increasingly now, the odd funeral.

I do not consider myself a practicing Christian per se, but I am interested in the more progressive side of Christianity. I am a "fan" of Matthew Fox and Robin Meyers - each of these men take you to different places and have introduced me to different people. It’s still very early days, but I hope to develop my ideas and readings on some of the names introduced to me in the near future.

For now I am quite content to read books and watch videos, presentations etc. online to develop my knowledge further. It is unlikely that I will return to regular church services in the near future.

In general, I guess my position is a unique blend of left leaning politics, secular humanism, Creation Spirituality and Progressive Christianity.

I have read the 8 points and agree with them to a large extent.

Thanks and I hope to see some of you around the forums.

Hi 4BeanMix,

Welcome to the community. You are not alone as a lot of x-Catholics have moved on to a similar more progressive stance. Many  people have passed through this site on their personal journey and I'm hoping you will find discussions beneficial to your own personal journey until that time.

Hello and welcome

It really looks like you will be a good and positive addition to this forum

Matthew Fox and Robin Meyers are both cool. I've gotten much of my own inspiration from John Shelby Spong and Bart Ehrman, (I'm one of those believing Christians for whom Bart Ehrman actually enhances their faith). I don't agree with all of what any of these people say, (neither yours nor mine), but I think they all have made enormous contributions to what we call Progressive Christianity.

Like yourself, I choose not to attend regular church services and probably won't in the future.

Welcome to the group

I hope you find it rewarding and worthwhile coming here.

Welcome 4BeanMix,

I tread a similar path in that I was born protestant, was a committed Christian until 18, then found myself out in the world as a Police Officer (no longer serving) which changed how I saw the world and Christianity.  So for me too, in the past 34yrs I haven't been to Church save for the odd wedding or funeral also.

I found progressive Christianity (largely through this site) about 10 years ago and whilst I am not what is traditionally understood as a practicing Christian per se, I do consider myself a progressive Christian and I feel that finding PC has allowed me to revisit and better understand Christianity, in a much better context.

I hope you enjoy participating here and that the site provides you with interest.

Cheers

Paul
