  1. It seems that Satan (existing in the context of the story) was advocating the thought that Job was only good because he was blessed. However, I would argue that this is only a subplot to a greater issue. Job mourned but did not curse God and continued to be upright. The greater plot as seen with Job in his discussions with the friends and Elihu (I think this is the name if my memory serves me) as well as his discussion with God seems to be more about why bad things happen to good people. The others argue that the curses came on to Job because he had done something wrong and Job has not. Job was always good in his prosperity and remained good in his poverty. Anyway, that's my take. Ed
  2. I think the greater issue in our political system has less to do with democrat verses republican and more to do with corporations with money verses the poor or middle class populations of our country. Our politicians are not servants of the people as much as they are slaves to thier contributors. Now, all politicians slip something in that is good for all people but for the most part, politicians have a job because of the money they recieved from corporate America. It is all about the money. Therefore, the power is not with the people on the right or the left but with banks, oil companies, etc... Therefore, I think that Christians, and churches, should be more involved in politics. Not in the arena of democrat verses republican but as a place for those who do not have a voice anywhere else but in the church to speak out. I beleive in seperation of church and state as long as the state is doing their job for the all of God's creation. Anyway, the stereotype that is most given to me is that I am not really a Christian but a humanist. Ed
  3. I am a youth minister of a church in North Carolina. As a youth minister, I get alot of mail from various agency encouraging my group to go to a certain camp or event. However. many of these events are very conservative and hyper-evangelical. As I plan my calander of youth events, I am having a hard time finding events or retreat planned for youth that are ecumenical and progressive. Do any of you know of any progressive retreats or events aimed for youth in the southeast section of the U.S? Ed
