Guidelines

Use this area to review or discuss good books. To propose a book discussion, start a topic with the title of the book in the subject line. If you would like to have a formal discussion, set a few guidelines for the group (e.g., at what pace will the book be read, will it be discussed chapter by chapter or by theme.), or, if you prefer a general discussion, specify that in the fist post.

Reading the bible again for the first time also by Borg

Any thing you can find on history and culture of the Ancient Middle East. At some point you might want to consider taking a trip to Israel. I can recommend an organization. That experince opened my eyes as much as studying the languages and going to seminary did and I was only there for a week!

I just finished "Jesus, Uncovering the Life, Teachings, and Relevance of a Religious Revolutionary", Borg's latest book. It knocked my socks off, great read.

I second that!

Last summer I read the book that opened my eyes to historical Jesus research in the first place. I think it was called Gospel Truth and the author was...Russel Shorto or something like that. He probably says a lot of the same things that Borg and Crossan and Spong and all the others do (and not in as much depth), but at the time I hadn't read any of those authors and so it was a real eye-opener for me. Easy read, too. You might just check it out :D
Peace, love, and God bless,
