Rev. William Henry Roll was born in Montclair, Essex County, New Jersey, May 7, 1942. He has lived in California since 1950. He received his higher education at five schools at the Alcala Park campus of the University of San Diego 1958-1969, and was a public school educator for 23 years for the Palo Verde Unified School District in Blythe, Riverside County, California.

Blythe is an isolated and economically depressed desert town in the Colorado Desert section of the Sonoran Desert in southeastern California. The Sonoran is one of the largest and hottest deserts in North America.

A legally ordained minister of the universal Christian church and an ordinand of the Christian Universalist Association, Rev. Roll is an adherent of the New Monasticism, and is the founder of Maranatha Ministries in Blythe. He conducts a Christian ministry to the homeless, disadvantaged, and other interested persons.

He does not believe there is any distinction whatsoever between Christians who hold ministerial credentials, and those who do not. He believes that the ordinances of the Lord's Supper and Baptism can be officiated by any Christian. Credentials are needed, however, for such things as performing civil marriages gaining access to prison ministry and ministerial associations.

He teaches about assured salvation, spiritual growth, mystical experiences, and divinization (union with God). These teachings are not new, but date back to the very dawn of Christianity!

He believes that spiritual practices are the regular or full-time performance of actions and activities undertaken for the purpose of cultivating spiritual development. A common metaphor used in the spiritual traditions of the worlds great religions is that of walking a path. Therefore a spiritual practice moves a person along a path towards a goal. The goal is variously referred to as salvation, liberation or theosis (union with God). A person who walks such a path is sometimes referred to as a wayfarer or a pilgrim.
